Introducing: MW Studio
I’m proud to introduce to you: MW Studio
Venice Beach, California
Before I came to LA, I had a rough idea of what I wanted this studio to be. But when I arrived, I realized that I, Marrisa Wilson, a first generation Guyanese-American, East Coast raised, Paris educated, New York-based Fashion Designer, had never had LA flavor introduced into my recipe of experiences. But what I did have was of all the beautiful stories MARRISA WILSON has told through the years, through art, product, and my community, so that’s where I started.
I spent some time with local friends of the brand to better understanding Venice and LA…
… creating connections through shared interests, getting to know each other, talking about art, sharing art, making art, talking about colors, designing clothes together, dreaming about not being kept in a box, getting inspired together, listening to music, talking about the creative process, trying on clothes, looking at the fit, talking about dance, feeling connected…
… all the things that fill my soul. And I realized that having the physical space and filling it with so many subtle yet impactful moments is what I want this world to be in LA.
So now, I invite you to visit me at the MW Studio..
And be part of the World of MW.
I created the World of MW because I believe in the superpower of multicultural women.

Guyana is known as ‘The Land of Six Peoples.’ The phrase refers to the six ethnic groups that are considered the foundation of Guyanese society: African, Indian, Chinese, Portuguese, European, and Amerindian, as well as a mixed race community. Caribbean culture is a unique blend of many different cultures and flavors blended into one unique recipe. In complex times, we need to lean on a wide range of experiences and perspectives to grow as people. I believe in approaching creativity and challenges through the lens of Caribbeanness.
To Explore ideas through products, through the lens of my soul…
With Caribbeanness in mind, inspiration can be sparked by creative practice in adjacent and unexpected disciplines, arriving at more unique and dynamic product stories.
… allowing you to wear yours.

In this entry, Marrisa celebrates Women’s History Month 2024 with a creative exercise used as a gut check — to ensure that the worlds she’s building at MW are consistently celebrating women, particularly women of color, through the many forms that they exist in.
