of
Women’s Individuality
In celebration of Women’s History Month, Levi’s® partnered with first-generation Guyanese-American designer Marrisa Wilson NY for a limited edition collaboration featuring a customized Heritage Trucker Jacket and Ribcage Bootcut jean. The collaboration combines the rich and vibrant stylings of Marrisa Wilson NY with Levi’s® heritage of self-expression, innovation, and denim to celebrate and uplift, Black women.
Soulful sounds are the inspiration behind every MWNY collection, and Marrisa’s favorite female R&B song titles and lyrics are embroidered throughout the interior and exterior of the garments. The song titles are highlighted with a punch of bright yellow, an energetic color that’s used as a connecting thread throughout many of MWNY’s creations. One of the collection’s standout pieces is a Trucker jacket that features boucle embroidery resembling textured hair, used as a motif to show other women that Black hair is beautiful in all of its forms. The Trucker jacket speaks to society’s politicization of Black women’s hair and Marrisa’s own journey of acceptance of hers in its natural state. Details like customized buttons, a yellow Levi’s® tab and back patch accent all of the garments found in the collection, and further add to its uniqueness.
